Human Value-based Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Education

In collaboration with UN-HABITAT Water for Asian Cities Programme, “Human Value-based Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Education (HVWSHE)” has been launched from December 2007.

The project aims at promoting Human Value-based Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Education (HVWSHE) through the following components:

  • Policy support through r evision of existing curriculum, and incorporation of HVWSHE in teachers' training manuals;
  • Piloting of HVWSHE in selected schools;
  • Establishing water class rooms at selected educational institutes;
  • Capacity building of government officials, principals and teachers;
  • Developing sample lesson plans for primary, secondary and higher secondary classes;
  • Preparing education materials and other IEC materials;
  • Providing functional WATSAN facilities and services; and
  • Disseminating information through workshop and IEC materials.

The Water for Asian Cities (WAC) Programme is a collaborative initiative between the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Governments of Asia. WAC Programme is supporting the implementation of the water and sanitation related Millennium Development Goals and targets (MDGs) in Asian cities, specifically promoting pro-poor governance , water demand management , increased attention to environmental sanitation; and income generation for the poor linked to water supply and sanitation. The program me seeks to achieve this by mobilizing political will, raising awareness through advocacy, information and education; training and capacity building; by promoting new investments in the urban water and sanitation sector; and by systematic monitoring of progress towards MDGs.
